Garden of Diversity

An amazing wealth of food plants is waiting to be discovered at Bio Forschung Austria’s Garden of Diversity.

A wide variety of near-natural habitats, such as species-rich meadows, fallows, hedges of native woody plants, deadwood objects and a wetland biotope, enable a high level of biodiversity in a relatively small area.

Another highlight is the Root Arena, the largest of its kind in Europe. Through a glass pane, watch the root system of different plants growing in the ground right before your eyes.

Green toad biotope

At the end of November/beginning of December 2017, a wetland biotope was built on the grounds of the BFA to promote the green toad. This project was financed by MA 22. We have documented for you how life in and around the pond (plants and animals) has developed over the past year.

An annual review for the 2018 activities at the green toad biotope can be found here.
More information about the biotope and the green toad can be found here.

Opening hours for garden visits
